The Power and Control Wheel is a tool that describes how men gain and maintain power and control over women in abusive relationships. It was created by the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project in 1984, based on the experiences of female survivors of domestic violence. The wheel outlines the most common tactics of abusive partners, such as physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse. The wheel shows that the goal of battering is to intentionally control or dominate the intimate partner.
