YWCA Union County Statement on the Murder of George Floyd

  • by YWCA Union County
  • May 30, 2020

YWCA Union County stands together with YWCA Minneapolis, YWCA St. Paul, and YWCA USA in calling for an end to the systemic racism that led to the death of George Floyd. This is the latest instance of police violence against Black people and people of color across this nation. We deplore the callous use of force and indifference to human life that led to Mr. Floyd’s unnecessary suffering and death. This is just one example of the institutional racism that is causing more deaths by COVID-19 among people of color, causing police shootings to be one of the leading causes of death for young Black men, and causing maternal health disparities between women of color and white women, with Black mothers dying more frequently in childbirth. Institutional racism manifests itself in housing, health, and economic disparities among many other areas. YWCA Union County commits itself to building a world of racial and social justice, where – in the words of our mission – peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all – truly exists.
